Living history

Founded in 138 BCE, Valencia is a place where tradition is everyday life: its medieval walls house ancient ruins; old valencià words pepper spoken Spanish; special events are celebrated with a mascletà, or burst of firecrackers; strolling brass bands play a pasodoble in the park; and on weekends families gather to prepare a paella according to generational recipes.

And, of course, every season has its fiesta: from the majestic Christmas cabalgata to the summer village festivals. But none is more anticipated than the spectacular Spring Fallas, a weeklong celebration of Valencian art, music, culture, dance, food and fireworks that UNESCO has recognized as a World Heritage event.

Modern vision

Valencia's vision is truly "green". Aside from its famous Blue-Flag beaches, natural spaces include the 450-acre Turia Gardens; the free-range Bioparc zoo; the grassy dunes of El Saler; the Albufera nature reserve; the Botanical Gardens; and the Oceanogràfic aquarium, masterpiece of Valencian architect Santiago Calatrava.

Valencia's modern infrastructure earns it a "Gamma+" ranking according to the Globalization and World Cities Research Network. Travel is easy via its international airport, high-speed trains, and frequent subway and bus service. Free city-wide WiFi, meanwhile, makes it just as easy to stay in touch with those back home.

Everyday culture

Valencia's vibrant culture makes it a "Best City" for millenials - just ask Nestpick, BestCities or the Huffington Post! In your shared apartment (included in USpain's standard fee), you'll be steps away from cafés, shops, grocers, metro stations and more. And we ensure that your housing is clean, convenient and prepared, so that your Valencian home-away-from-home will be waiting for you upon your arrival.

If you'd like to rent your own apartment, stay in a student dorm or live with a local family, we can help you make arrangements too. Note that you will be responsible for your housing expenses, however, and that these will be added to USpain's standard fee:

  • Individual apartment (utilities included, laundry on-site):

$500 - 900 per month

  • Student residence (utilities, amenities, meals & laundry):

$675 - 800 per month

  • Family homestay (family utilities, amenities, meals & laundry): $500 - 900 per month

Regardless of where you live, we are available to assist you with any concerns you have about your housing over the term.

In addition, USpain can provide you with reliable advice on everything from student insurance to phone and data plans at the best price. Valencia is not only one of Spain's most attractive cities, but also one of its most affordable: you may find that spending a term abroad costs even less than a semester on your home campus.
